My house in Oudesluis is the perfect location for the exploration of the north of Holland. This area offers a mix of history, culture and landscapes. Some tips are listed below.
In Schagen (at 5 kilometres) you can easily spend a day. Schagen has excellent shopping facilities in the old centre of town and in the new "Makado" shopping mall.
Schagen also boasts a rich dining culture. Around the market you will find a lot of terrace cafes and good restaurants.
The museum farm "Vreeburg" is certainly worth a visit just like a
visit to the car museum.
The old town of Shagen is famous for its West-Frisian market. Hundreds of participants in original peasant costumes take part in a procession through the centre.
This market takes place from the end of June on 10 consecutive Thursdays. I myself also like to walk along (see the bit folklore on this site).
The tourism office is located in the rebuilt "Castle of Schagen" near the market.
The beach of Callantsoog (see
map
) is situated only 11 kilometres from Oudesluis. For a quiet beach, Groote Keeten will suite your needs.
Enkhuizen (see
map
) is a monumental city where you can experience the rich history of the "VOC". Besides the historical centre, the "Zuiderzeemuseum" also shows a historic picture of life by the sea.
Flower bulbs are a typical product from North of the Netherlands. In the surroundings of Oudesluis splendid flower fields can be seen in
spring.
